Our Services
Since our founding in 1975, the Women’s Center has provided a safe haven as the sole provider of domestic abuse and sexual assault survivor services in the Northern Fairfield and Southern Litchfield county areas. The organization serves over 20,000 individuals from our area communities with free and confidential services that are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
We help in the following ways:
1. Emergency shelter and support services: The Women’s Center offers a safe and secure environment for victims of domestic and sexual violence. We serve women and children fleeing the danger of violence in their own home through our thirteen-bed shelter, Elizabeth House, while men are provided a separate location for shelter.
2. Counseling & Advocacy Services: Services for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and for those dealing with other major life transitions or challenges such as ending relationships, separation and divorce, low self-esteem.
3. Crisis Intervention: The Women’s Center provides 24-hour hotlines, on-site emergency response at area hospitals, police departments and at court. Walk-ins are also served at the 2 West Street facility.
4. Community Education, Primary Prevention & Training: The Women’s Center provides programs for all ages throughout our communities - from pre-school aged children to senior citizens. Primary prevention and education programs are provided in schools from pre-K through college level as well as to area businesses, social and civic groups, and faith-based organizations. Programs include: Healthy Relationships, Anti-bullying, Staying Safe on College Campuses, Gender Images in the Media and more.
